Liverpool see Iker Muniain as Adam Lallana’s replacement

Liverpool are keen on a summer move for Iker Muniain, according to Don Balon (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The 26-year-old plays for Athletic Bilbao and started his career as a winger. However, Muniain is capable of performing on either side of the forward and has also been successful as a central attacking midfielder.

Muniain has four goals for Bilbao this season and spent his entire senior career with the Basque club.

The report claims that Liverpool see the Spaniard as a replacement for Adam Lallana. The English midfielder is a free agent at the end of the season but has featured in some games this season.

Lallana did score in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United but has struggled with injuries over the past two years.

Jurgen Klopp has tracked Munian since his managerial days at Borussia Dortmund, and the report claims that Liverpool want to double his wages in hopes of signing him.

Muniain could cover several positions at Liverpool

Muniain was excellent for Bilbao a couple of years ago. He scored seven goals and provided a couple of assists in the 2016/17 La Liga season and even did well in the Europa League.

The 26-year-old still has time on his hands, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move in the summer.

The Spaniard would provide cover for a lot of places Liverpool and would add competition too.

Lallana’s injury history isn’t the only issue with him being 31, and the Reds could do with someone younger to replace the Englishman.
