Jurgen Klopp confirms Xherdan Shaqiri has a future at Anfield
Xherdan Shaqiri has found minutes hard to come by at Anfield since the second half of the previous campaign.
Injuries haven’t helped his cause as the Swiss winger hasn’t featured for us since the 2-0 defeat to Napoli.
The 28-year-old joined Liverpool from Stoke last season and only has three substitute appearances for us this campaign.
However, Shaqiri was back in training recently and it will be interesting to see if he features for us soon. The Express claims that Shaqiri has been linked with an exit during the January transfer window.
However, Jurgen Klopp didn’t want to part with the Swiss sensation and shut down rumours of an exit (h/t Express):
“Why should I talk about something that’s outside? We spoke earlier [in the season] that he wasn’t playing as much as he wanted to.
“Speculation is speculation. Completely fine here. Of course, he has a future here.”
Shaqiri had some big moments last season
The Swiss star played his part in us defeating Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
Shaqiri also did a great job in replacing Mohamed Salah in some games at the start of the previous campaign.
The Swiss star can also play down the middle as an attacking midfielder. The Reds have some big games coming up in the next two months and we could pull away from the Premier League chasing pack.
