Turkish keeper Ugurcan Cakir responds to links with Liverpool
Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir has responded to the links with Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has been scouted by the Reds in recent months, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Cakir is one of the most impressive keepers in the Turkish league and recently spoke about the speculation regarding his future.
The keeper claimed the attention is giving him more confidence but wasn’t letting his focus wane.
He did, however, claim that the links with Liverpool were “good” while speaking at an event (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“This situation gives me a lot of confidence but to be honest, I’m not paying too much attention to that. I believe this increased confidence can be seen in my game.
“To be linked with a move to Liverpool is a good thing but I am totally focused on Trabzonspor’s success this season.”
Cakir has also played for the Turkish national team in recent weeks, and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping conundrum
Liverpool signed Adrian as back-up to Alisson in the summer. However, the Spaniard is 32 and doesn’t have many top years left in him.
Caoimhin Kelleher has impressed in the Carabao Cup this season, but still needs time to develop further.
Cakir could be a decent back-up keeper if we are to lose Adrian. However, he would have to spend a lot of time on the bench behind Alisson.
