Twitter reacts as Liverpool draw Atletico Madrid in UEFA Champions League

Reigning Champions Liverpool drew Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League for the round of 16.

Liverpool will return to the stadium where we won our 6th European Cup in what will be a nostalgia-filled away trip.

Atletico are a well-drilled, defensively sound and an extremely organized side capable of causing Liverpool enough problems.

In contrast to Liverpool consolidating a strong lead in the league, Atletico have had a rather rocky season in La Liga and find themselves in 5th place after 16 games.

Although they have lost just twice in La Liga, an inability to break down teams have led to them drawing 8 games.

In spite of such travails, they represent formidable opposition and we will have to be on our toes to beat them. A team that has the likes of Alvaro Morata, Joao Felix and Diego Costa can only be ignored at one’s peril.

Liverpool and Atletico last faced each other in the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2010, with Atletico progressing on away goals after the tie ended 2-2.

The draw evoked mixed emotions from Liverpool fans. A number of fans view it as the worst possible match-up while many others are confident in the team’s ability to come through.

Although a tricky tie, Atletico wouldn’t rejoice drawing a team of our calibre either and we should have enough quality and fortitude to see this out and proceed to the quarter-finals.
