Top French players too expensive for Liverpool, says Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp believes that premium pricing is the reason that Liverpool have no French players on their roster. (h/t Mirror)

Citing that there was no particular reason for Liverpool not having any French players in the team, Klopp went on to say that the club would like to have them – if not for the cost.

“We would like to have a French player, but some of them are too expensive for us.”

Mamadou Sakho
Mamadou Sakho was the last French player to play for Liverpool

Liverpool have not had a French player on their rolls since defender Mamadou Sakho was sold to Crystal Palace in 2017 after he lost favour under Klopp. (h/t ESPN)

France are the current World Cup holders and have a young core of talented players.

With Liverpool consistently being linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain wonder kid Kylian Mbappe, Klopp’s comments could be interpreted as a sign that the club will not be making a move for the Frenchman (h/t Liverpool Echo).

With Liverpool becoming a force majeure in the modern game again, players like Mbappe will continue to be linked but we must be cautious about what we spend.

That said, Klopp does not have any immediate concerns as Liverpool are well-stocked with young talent.
