Paul Merson has backed the Reds to equal Arsenal’s unbeaten record
Arsenal legend Paul Merson has backed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool backing to equal the Gunners’ record 49-match unbeaten run (h/t Football London)
Liverpool’s run extended to 36 matches with the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last Sunday. 13 short of Arsenal’s incredible tally.
I haven’t heard one person talk about Liverpool getting near the 49 unbeaten of Arsenal. It’s never talked about, it’s odd. You look at it and think: ‘Who is going to beat them?,”
Backing Liverpool to match Arsenal’s tally, Merson also went on to say that he believes only Manchester City have a chance of beating the Reds this season.
If the Reds continue their unbeaten run, Manchester City will be our49th opponent in a mouth-watering tie for the neutrals.
Merson also went on to explain that this Liverpool side will make a case against Arsenal’s invincibles if we end the season unbeaten in the league. (h/t Sky Sports)
“If Liverpool do go unbeaten, it is a massive feat, and it will be a bigger achievement. Arsenal never had a Manchester City beside them, trying to avoid defeat against them twice in a season.”
“And, arguably, Chelsea’s team were probably better back then, Manchester United’s team was far better back then, Arsenal’s team was far better back then. This is a proper debate.”
