Liverpool 2-0 Sheffield United: Things you may have missed + Fan reactions

Twitter reacts to memorable moments as Liverpool beat Sheffield

Liverpool went 13 points clear at the top, having played a game less. with a 2-0 victory over Sheffield United at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool early in the game and Sheffield had goalkeeper Dean Henderson to thank for keeping the scoreline the same at half time.

Liverpool kept going and Sadio Mane doubled the Reds lead as the rebound fell kindly to him, after forcing Henderson into a good save.

Liverpool are now unbeaten in the league for 365 days and the run doesn’t look likely to stop anytime soon.

Here we take a look at three moments in the game that you may have missed through Twitter reactions.

1) Full-backs switch flanks

Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have redefined the role of full-backs in the modern game. Dominant on their own flanks, the pair are capable of constantly shifting possession to the other flank with pinpoint precision.

As a Liverpool counter-attack broke down in the first half, both the players ended up occupying the opposite flank and still kept playing without any fuss until the next transition gave them the opportunity to return.

Some fans on Twitter noticed this and were quick to point it out.

2) Wijnaldum’s ability to keep the ball

Georginio Wijnaldum’s ball retention is an important aspect of Liverpool’s gameplan in the midfield.

The Dutchman was back to doing what he does best as he got himself out of some very tricky situations with the ball.

3) Virgil van Dijk making defending look simple

With the game poised at 1-0, Sheffield United threatened to hit the Reds on the break as Lys Mousset ran at the Liverpool defence.

He came up against a Dutch wall in Van Dijk, who dispossessed the Frenchman with a well-timed tackle to win the ball back for his side.

Had he not timed it right, Sheffield United would probably have been through on goal with just Alisson to beat.

It is ridiculous how easy Van Dijk made such a dangerous moment look.
