Liverpool rule out Xherdan Shaqiri going on loan to Roma
Liverpool have turned down an approach from AS Roma to take winger Xherdan Shaqiri on loan.
Italian correspondent Fabrizio Romano had revealed that the Italians saw the Swiss international as a replacement for the injured Nicolo Zaniolo.
He continued to say that Liverpool have rebuffed any approach from Roma regarding taking the player on loan in the January transfer window.
Roma’s 20-year-old talent, Nicolo Zaniolo has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his ACL in the 2-1 loss to Juventus last Sunday. (h/t Guardian)
The youngster is also ruled out of the UEFA Euro 2020 where he was expected to star for the Italian national team.
Shaqiri has played a bit-part role at Liverpool this season. He has more chances of starring for Roma as they look to compensate for the loss of their attacking talisman.
With Liverpool still on course for a treble, losing a player of Shaqirir’s ability will harm Liverpool’s strength in depth and the midfielder will stay at Merseyside till the end of the season.
Liverpool signed Japanese playmaker Takumi Minamino this month. The new number 18 could also prove to be a hindrance to the Swiss international’s ability to get more play-time.
