Liverpool’s Dembele pursuit in tatters as key Barca star suffers injury
An injury to ex-Liverpool star Luis Suarez is likely to affect any move the Reds make to sign Ousmane Dembele, according to the Mirror.
The Reds have been longtime admirers of the French star since his time at Rennes. The Merseysiders have been linked with a £90million deal for the World Cup winner in the January transfer window.
With Luis Suarez now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Liverpool’s chances of landing the player have been dealt a heavy blow. The former Liverpool striker is expected to be out for four months after picking up a knock in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final defeat against Atletico Madrid.
Injuries and the presence of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Suarez in the pecking order have limited Dembele’s appearances this season. The 22-year-old has made 12 appearances for Barcelona this season and has scored 3 goals. (h/t Whoscored)
Now with Suarez out injured, Barcelona is unlikely to want to sell the player this month as they chase the coveted Champions League crown.
