Liverpool table £12.8million bid for Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir

Liverpool have tabled a £12.8million bid for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, according to the Turkish side’s club president. (h/t Express)

Spanish shot-stopper Adrian was signed in the summer to provide backup for Alisson Becker. The Spaniard has performed admirably when called upon but the club are keen to bring in more competition for the Brazilian number one.

Turkish keeper Cakir has caught Liverpool’s attention following his performances over the last few seasons.

Cakir has been at the heart of a Trabzonspor defense that is in the top five in the Turkish first division.

Club president Ahmet Agaoglu claims that Trabsonzpor have received an offer for their No 1 from Liverpool.

“There are offers for Cakir, we continue to receive offers,” 

“It’s been said Liverpool have made an offer. So a team that is undefeated in the Premier League wants my keeper.”

This is reportedly Liverpool’s second offer for the 23-year-old who took over as the first-choice keeper after the retirement of Onur Kivrak in 2019.

Following an approach at the start of the season, Liverpool reportedly said they do not want to wait until the summer to sign Cakir.

The Turkish club are said to be keen on keeping the player until after Euro 2020. The club feel they can command a higher fee if he performs well at the tournament.

Cakir will find it hard to displace Alisson who is the undisputable number one. Whether the club will actively pursue the Turkish international or not remains to be seen.
