Twitter reacts to Jurgen Klopp’s statement to play reserves in FA Cup replay

It was a frustrating night for Jurgen Klopp as not only did his side throw away a two-goal lead, he now has to accommodate an FA Cup replay into the club’s winter break.

The Liverpool manager made no qualms about his displeasure in the post-match press conference. Klopp praised Shrewsbury for the fightback and claimed it was well deserved, while criticizing his players for their mistakes.

The German manager went on to controversially state that he will honour the winter break and that neither he nor his first-team will be involved in the replay at Anfield on 5th February.

Reserve team manager Neil Critchley will take charge of the fixture in Klopp’s absence. Critchley had previously taken charge of the Reds team that faced Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December.

That particular incident was motivated by the first-team being away in Qatar for the Club World Cup. Liverpool were forced to use the youngest side in their history to compensate for the situation. It looks to be more of the same but better, with the match also coming at an opportune time to throw in some of the players returning from injury.

Liverpool have had a gruelling schedule and have had to deal with a number of injury problems. It is well within the manager’s right to choose to do what he thinks is right for the benefit of the team.

Liverpool fans took to Twitter to voice their opinions on the manager’s comments. We take a look at some of them below.
