According to Sports Bild (h/t Metro), the Reds are willing to go big in the summer to land the Leipzig ace. Liverpool has had a fairly quiet trio of windows with RB Salzburg’s Takumi Minamino and goalkeeper Adrian being the only notable first-team additions.
Klopp needs to add to his attack. Werner is capable of not only providing cover for the Liverpool front three but can also challenge them for a starting position.
A versatile attacker, Werner can play anywhere along the front line. The 24-year-old has predominantly played upfront through the centre for Leipzig and has scored 25 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season.
The Africa Cup of Nations will be held in January 2021. Liverpool will likely lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the duration of the tournament. Potentially signing Werner could ensure we have a player of similar calibre to call upon during that time.
The 24-year-old has previously spoken of his desire for playing abroad one day. He also stated that it would be fun playing in the English Premier League. (h/t Metro)
