Andrew Robertson backs Jordan Henderson for Player of the Season gong
It may have seemed unfathomable five years ago. Jordan Henderson has emerged as a leading contender for the Premier League Player of the Year award.
The Liverpool captain has led from the front as a dominant Liverpool side brushed off past disappointment to romp to a 22-point lead. The 29-year-old has been instrumental in the Reds midfield gaining a stranglehold on the game making the victory merely a formality.
Left-back Andrew Robertson has now thrown his name into the hat of supporters backing the Reds skipper to be crowned player of the Year. Henderson faces competition from a number of his own teammates such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk. A Liverpool victory will ensure a hat trick of awards for the Merseysiders. The Liverpool captain has three goals and four assists this season. His highest goal returns in five seasons. He not only brought Liverpool level against Spurs at Anfield but also put in a man of the match performance with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win at the Molineux.
Grit and Guts
His ability to push the team through adversity will not have been lost on his teammates. A sentiment echoed by Robertson.
“At times this season when we’ve struggled Hendo has been the one that has driven us forward.”
The Scot went on to praise his skipper for his commitment and stated that the player does not deserve the credit he deserves. He went to call his skipper not only a fantastic player but also a fantastic model and captain.
Henderson has a split following even among the Liverpool fanbase where he is equally admired and derided. Being the captain who led the club to the first League title in 30 years will be justice to a player who has given his all to the club every single time he plays.

Henderson may not be the most flamboyant or skilled footballer. He is a microcosm the Liverpool team in large. Klopp used the adage ‘Turn from doubters to believers’ with regards to the team. Given his performances, Henderson just might do that at a personal level too.
