Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to go big on Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner
Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to spend big on Bundesliga duo Jadon Sancho and Timo Werner in the summer, according to Viasport (h/t Daily Mail)
The players, who have been linked with the Reds in the past, are expected to leave Germany in the summer window. Carragher voiced his opinion of Liverpool signing a top attacking player in the summer. Instead of choosing one from Sancho or Werner, he wanted the club to sign both the young stars.
“Liverpool do need a top attacking player to come in the summer. Sancho or Werner? I’ll take both,”
The former Liverpool defender is also of the opinion that the club has to add to the squad and is in no need to let anyone go. He hinted at the prospect of funds being available due to the club’s lack of significant spending last year.
With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah set to travel for the Africa Cup of Nations midway through the Premier League season, Liverpool will be short of attacking options. It becomes imperative that the Reds to their squad in order to prepare for that contingency.
He also discussed Liverpool’s lack of attacking quality in depth by elucidating on Divock Origi. The Belgian was brought on for Sadio Mane against Atletico Madrid. However, he failed to make an impact as the Reds slumped to a 1-0 defeat.
Carragher praised Origi’s contribution in the UEFA Champions League but also stated that Liverpool should be bringing on a player of higher calibre than the Belgian.
