Liverpool’s reaction to rumours of Bundesliga club’s £75m move for Roberto Firmino

According to a report by Goal (h/t Daily Express), Liverpool were bemused to learn of Bayern Munich’s possible £75m move for Roberto Firmino.

The report adds that the Reds are considering a move for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner. And while that may have led to concerns about Firmino’s role, Goal (h/t Daily Express) claims that the Bundesliga ace is being viewed only as a back-up for the Brazilian.

While Firmino isn’t an out-and-out goalscorer, his contribution is immeasurable. With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah alongside him, he’s an absolute force to reckon with. His link-up play is second to none and the trio is easily among Europe’s most feared.

Since joining from Hoffenheim in 2015 for a fee of £29m, Firmino has since gone on to score 76 goals and provide 59 assists in 230 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool. These numbers speak volumes and it is good to hear that the hierarchy is committed to retaining his services.

Jurgen Klopp has been instrumental in extracting the best out of the striker and it would be folly to disrupt this partnership any time soon. While it remains to be seen if a young player like Werner is willing to join us to act as a back-up for Firmino, Liverpool must not think twice about fending off interest from Bayern Munich.
