Pep Guardiola believes Liverpool will find it tough to stay at the top
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has fired off a warning to Liverpool following his sides’ Carabao Cup final victory against Aston Villa, according to The Express.
This was City’s eighth trophy from the last nine on offer domestically. With Liverpool being favourites to win the league, Guardiola has warned the Reds to underestimate the difficulty in winning trophies at their own peril.
The Catalan went on to praise his side for their remarkable tally or trophies and stated that it will difficult for another team to match City’s achievements.
“It would be so difficult for anyone to do it again.”
He admitted that it will be hard for even his side to repeat such a feat while claiming that teams go on to drop a level after winning.
This is Guardiola’s third straight League Cup and also the eighth trophy that he has won at Wembley. He waved off the humorous suggestion that he should get a tattoo of the stadium that has been the venue of so much of his success.
“My body doesn’t accept tattoos, I’m not strong enough.”
He spoke of the difficulty in keeping a successful run going and spoke of his team’s current predicament in the league to run home the point. Manchester City won the last two Premier League titles after scoring an incredible 198 points over both seasons.
They have found the going tough this season and find themselves a mammoth 22 points behind leaders Liverpool having played a game less.
