Alisson Becker to miss upcoming games due to muscle injury
When it rains it pours. Liverpool have been rocked by an injury to another key player as the club prepares for a number of crunch clashes including the Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid, according to Liverpoolfc.com.
Alisson Beker suffered a muscle injury ahead of the FA Cup clash against Chelsea, with scans ruling him out of the clash against Bournemouth.
“Unfortunately Ali is out”
The Liverpool boss admitted that the player had an incident that wasn’t taken too seriously as he was supposed to be rested for the Chelsea clash. Scans taken the next day revealed the extent of the injury, which now forces the keeper out at a crucial juncture in the season.
Elaborating on the injury, Klopp went on to reveal that the muscle injury in question occurred in the hip area. The issue although not serious, is concerning enough to affect the goalkeeper’s ability to perform.
Adrian to step up
Alisson is one of the best players in the world and his absence will be a huge blow to the Reds. Although Adrian has proven to be a capable keeper, his isn’t anywhere near the Brazilian’s quality and will need to be at his best in the highly anticipated clash against Atletico Madrid.
Diego Simeone’s side arrive with a one-goal lead and it is imperative that Liverpool do not concede any at home.
Klopp went on to state that he expects the keeper to miss the matches next week and is a doubt for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Alisson will surely feature after the international break.
The 27-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Reds this season and has kept 14 clean sheets, conceding just 17 goals. He is also in the running for a second successive Premier League Golden Glove with 10 shut outs, one behind Burnley’s Nick Pope.
