One of Jurgen Klopp’s first prospects at Liverpool still believes in his Anfield dream

Ben Woodburn still believes he has a future at Liverpool

The 2016-17 season was big for Liverpool. The Reds qualified for the Champions League in Jurgen Klopp’s first season in charge. It laid the foundation for continued improvement under the German since then.

It was a memorable year for Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn, who came on as a substitute in the League Cup quarter-finals against Leeds United. He had already entered the record books as the third-youngest Reds player ever

but then went one better as his goal that night broke Micheal Owen’s long-standing record as the club’s youngest goalscorer.

He went on to make five more appearances in the Premier League that season. The future looked bright for the youngster as he also went on to score on his Wales debut. Things haven’t gone according to plan since, as a number of injuries and poor spells have spelt doom for the youngster’s progress.

Ben Woodburn is Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer

Now 20, Woodburn was initially scheduled to return from injury in January but a spate of rough luck has left him sidelined for a further two months.

The youngster is currently on loan at Oxford United and has made 11 appearances for the club, having scored one goal. The League One club are currently 7th in the league and are in contention for promotion.

In spite of such setbacks, the youngster is upbeat about his fortunes at Anfield and still believes he can make it.

Ben Woodburn still believes he has a shot at Liverpool

He now has two months at Oxford to impress and get back to where he wants to be. Woodburn’s tag as the poster boy has been usurped by Neco Williams, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

Woodburn has two more years left on his Liverpool contract and will hope to do enough to earn himself another shot at glory in Red.
