Is there anything James Milner cannot do? Probably not. He was at it once again against Bournemouth at Anfield. The 34-year-old started in place of Andrew Robertson, who was rested for the match as a precaution.

Milner put in a solid shift for the Scotsman and rounded it off with an excellent goal-line clearance to help maintain Liverpool’s slender lead.

The Liverpool vice-captain was recorded giving an inspirational pep talk prior to the match and he went on to play a key role as Liverpool came away with all three points.

Ryan Fraser was through on goal after a Fabinho mistake. Adrian did well to close him down, only for Fraser to appear to have successfully lobbed him.

With the ball heading goalwards, Anfield waited with bated breath. They were cheering just seconds later as the Liverpool No.7 came out of nowhere to clear the ball just inches off the goal line.

Not only did he time his jump right but he also managed to get the right power and direction to send the ball away from goal. This has to be the best clearance in the league this year and easily tops any clearance Liverpool have made in recent years.

Liverpool were not at their best recently but the club got back to winning ways. The result now means we need just nine more points to guarantee the club’s first league title in 30 years.

Clearances, at times, can be the difference between winning a championship or not. One only needs to look back to John Stones’ clearance at the Etihad last year that denied Liverpool a goal by millimetres.

This will not be that dramatic, however, the impact it can have on Liverpool’s season given their recent form should not be underestimated.
