Haaland is not keen on facing up against Virgil van Dijk
According to France Football (h/t Liverpool Echo), Norwegian scoring sensation Erling Braut Haaland has revealed he hates coming up against Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
The 19-year-old is considered to be one of Europe’s top marksmen and has scored an incredible 40 goals in 32 games combined for both RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.
One of the goals came against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League fixture at Anfield. Haaland played twice for Salzburg against the Reds in the group stages enduring performance to forget in the return leg in Austria.
Haaland has shown his mettle by scoring against Europe’s elite in the continent’s premier club football tournament. He scored twice on his Dortmund debut in the competition as the Germans downed French powerhouse PSG 2-1 in the first leg of the round of 16.
Answering questions prior to the return leg in Paris, the 19-year old lavished praise on Van Dijk, while claiming he is the type of defender that the player will not relish coming up against.
“He is powerful, quick, he possesses all the qualities. He is an incredible player.”
Liverpool faced off against Salzburg in a winner-takes-all encounter at the Red Bull Arena on matchday six of the Champions League. Despite going into the game with confidence, Haaland was kept quiet and was effectively marked out fo the game as a Mohamed Salah brace helped Liverpool through.
Van Dijk is one of the world’s best defenders. His form has been so good since joining Liverpool that just beating him in a one on one is considered to be news.

The Dutch colossus will return to action midweek in the return leg against Atletico Madrid at Anfield. Liverpool will hope that the defender will have another one of his unbeatable nights as the Reds look to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit.
