Adrian sends out a message for Liverpool fans after blunder in Atletico defeat
Liverpool slumped to a devastating 2-3 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, losing 2-4 on aggregate. Our recent losing streak came to the fore once more as the team put up an overall poor show.
Nothing clicked on the field and despite some good goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino, the La Liga giants managed to make a strong comeback as the game reached the final stages.
Marcos Llorente opened the scoring for Atletico at Anfield, thus pulling them ahead further on aggregate. The situation could have still been salvaged but he scored one more screamer, much to the ire of the Anfield faithful. And to make matters worse, Alvaro Morata capped things off with a last-minute goal.
After winning the Champions League in emphatic fashion last season, this performance was poor by a large margin. These are worrying times for us, considering we have been losing too many games of late.
While a few players stood out against Diego Simeone’s men, most of the team struggled. And Adrian, by far, was simply in the right place at the wrong time.
His mistakes were glaringly apparent and this only brings back the nightmarish night against Real Madrid in 2018. Back then, we were let down by Loris Karius and this time, Adrian did the honours.
However, the player was quick to take to his Twitter account and lauded the fans for their support even though the game did not go our way.
Very sad and disappointed for the result tonight, clearly not what we were expecting. Thanks to all the fans for the support, we still have big objectives ahead this season.@LFC always comes back pic.twitter.com/sMVqQqp4qF

It is nice to see Adrian putting out a tweet like this but at the same time, failing to defend the Champions League does taste bitter. Nevertheless, we still have the Premier League title in the bag.
