Liverpool handed a boost in their pursuit of Kai Havertz as Juve think twice

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their hopes of landing Kai Havertz, according to Calciomercato (h/t Express).

Havertz has been one of the best performers for Bayer Leverkusen and has attracted the attention of several clubs.

Juventus are one of those clubs keeping an eye on the 20-year-old, however, the Italians aren’t keen on spending big on Havertz (h/t Express).

Leverkusen have slapped a price of €80m on the German international, a price that Juventus aren’t keen on spending (h/t Express). Havertz has scored 10 goals and has 8 assists to his name this season, and is one of the brightest talents in Germany.

The report adds that Jurgen Klopp has kept an eye on the German for a while. Havertz was also a target for Liverpool last season but Leverkusen rejected a move from the Premier League leaders (h/t Express).

Leverkusen know they have a star in their hands and aren’t keen on reducing their asking price (h/t Express).

Liverpool need another midfield option

Havertz is contracted until 2022 and should Leverkusen not sell him this summer, they could lose him for nothing. Spending €80m on a player is a risky move, however, the Reds have spent big when they have earmarked a star.

Virgil van Dijk and Alisson came for huge sums and if Klopp wants Havertz, he must get the attacking midfielder.

The Reds are lacking someone who can unlock defences from the midfield. Only Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the attacking midfielder on our books. Adam Lallana could do this role but he is out of a contract at the end of the season.
