Phil Thompson believes Liverpool need two players in the summer transfer window
According to Sky Sports (h/t Express), Liverpool legend, Phil Thompson believes that Jurgen Klopp needs to sign two players in the summer transfer window. He has also called for the Reds to sign someone similar to former fan favourite Philippe Coutinho.
Thompson believes that Liverpool need to prioritize signing a striker and a backup left-back. He believes that a backup for Andy Robertson is essential.
The football season has come to a temporary halt following the coronavirus pandemic. With the suspension set to last until at least April 3, no one is sure of what lies next.
In spite of the uncertainty, Thompson has seen the need to provide his opinion on what the Reds need.
“I still think we need another striker and maybe a little bit more back-up for Andrew Robertson.”
He believes that the Reds are well stocked in central defence and midfield, however, the former player goes on to add that a player similar to Philippe Coutinho could be helpful in opening up opposition defences.
Although the Brazilian has failed to live up to his reputation in Spain, the chances of him returning to Anfield are remote.
Thompson isn’t wrong to suggest that the Reds need a creative presence in midfield. There have been times this season when the Reds have looked shorn of ideas. A creative presence will give Klopp more options against stubborn opposition, taking us to the next level.
How the delay in the season will affect the transfer window remains to be seen.
