Jamie O’Hara says Liverpool should be awarded the Premier League title

Speaking on TalkSport (h/t Express), former Tottenham Hotspur star Jamie O’Hara has stated that Liverpool should be awarded this season’s Premier League title. He believes that it would be extremely unfair if the Reds are denied the title.

O’Hara, however, believes that the season will not be completed given the coronavirus pandemic. The Premier League decided to suspend all football activities until at least the 3rd of April. It remains uncertain as to whether the fixtures will resume after the date or not.

Liverpool are currently 25 points clear of nearest challengers Manchester City. Just six more points should see the Reds clinch their first League championship in 30 years.

With the fate of the football season in doubt, a number of suggestions have been doing the rounds. One of them is to declare the season null and void. Such a decision will be scorned at on Merseyside where the Reds have put on a once in a lifetime assault on the title.

Deservedly so!

O’Hara believes that it is unlikely that the season will be completed. He has however called upon the authorities to declare Liverpool champions if that comes to pass. He has called such denial the most unfair thing ever in sports.

“I think it would be the most unfair thing in sport ever if Liverpool don’t get crowned champions – they have to be crowned champions.”

He has suggested that the Reds will, unfortunately, have an asterisk that masks the incredible achievement of this team. This is in case they are crowned champions without the season being completed.

The former midfielder has put forward a suggestion to permit the current top four to qualify for the Champions League. He goes on to add that no team needs to be relegated, with the Premier League expanding to 22 teams to accommodate the top two from the EFL Championship.

He has called upon the teams to come to a compromise in order to find an amicable solution to the confusion. It would be a travesty to suggest that Liverpool be denied the chance to celebrate the championship that they so richly deserve.
