Transfer News – Liverpool to rival Arsenal for 27-year-old Ligue 1 star

Liverpool to rival Arsenal for PSG star Layvin Kurzawa

According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Metro), Liverpool are keen on beating Arsenal to the signing of Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa.

The 27-year-old who plays at left-back is out of contract in the summer and can be signed on a free. An experienced player, he has made 123 appearances for the Parisians and has scored 13 goals and 21 assists. An impressive tally for a defender.

Arsenal was keen on securing him in January, but he instead chose to stay in France. He has informed PSG of his intention to leave

once his contract expires.

Andy Robertson is Liverpool’s undisputed choice at left-back. There is, however, a lack of specialist cover for the Scotland captain. James Milner and Yaser Larouci have both deputized for the 26-year-old.

Milner is not a natural left-back and despite doing well, he is not getting any younger. Larouci is still young and could be found wanting against top-quality opposition. All this makes the signing of an experienced specialist as a backup for Robertson a priority.

Kurzawa has been a part of a domestically dominant PSG side and has rubbed shoulders with some of the best players in the world. He also has experience of playing in the Champions League and has also won 13 caps for the French national team.

Signing such an experienced player for free will be a good investment. Apart from Arsenal, Barcelona, Napoli and Inter Milan are also in the fray for the Frenchman.

Kurzawa came through the ranks at Monaco before moving to PSG in 2015. He has been a part of 13 trophy-winning squads with the Parisians and was also selected for the Ligue 1 team of the year in 2013-14.

Liverpool are currently one of the best sides in England and Europe. The defending European Champions are only likely to get better and Kurzawa has an excellent chance of continuing his tryst with trophies if he moves to Anfield.
