Jordan Henderson named Europe’s best player by CIES Football Observatory

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been ranked as the best footballer in 2020 across Europe by CIES Football Observatory (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The CIES Football Observatory rates players across the top five leagues in Europe on a match-by-match basis by taking into account the pitch production and efficiency at both individual and collective level. These rankings are calculated for four different time periods: last week, last month, last three months and last six months.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson tops the rankings for players during the last three-month period, i.e., since the onset of 2020. The English midfielder is ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and other superstars in the rankings.

Despite picking up an injury and missing a few matches in February, Henderson enjoys a healthy rating of 92.o. PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe comes in second behind our skipper while Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara makes the top three on the list.

The ranking shouldn’t come as a surprise given how brilliant Henderson has been for us this season. The Englishman has been one of the chief driving forces for our team as we sit pretty at the top of the Premier League table with a near-unassailable 25 point lead over Manchester City.

Henderson has made 35 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season, chipping in with three goals and five assists.

The 29-year-old drops down to the twelfth spot in the rankings for the last six-month duration, while coming in third for the same duration with a rating of 87.8, when the rankings are limited only to the Premier League. Ahead of him in those standings are our own Joe Gomez (90.2) and Virgil van Dijk (88.8).

Liverpool have been brilliant this season. And these rankings are further proof of how successful our team has been under Jurgen Klopp.
