Trent Alexander-Arnold hailed by former England defender Viv Anderson
Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been hailed by former Nottingham Forest and England defender Viv Anderson for transforming and reinventing the full-back role in the modern game (h/t Daily Star).
Alexander-Arnold, a product of our academy, has grown into one of the best right-backs in the game over the past couple of seasons. At the age of just 21, the youngster is one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp’s teamsheet week in week out as well as being a regular for the England national team.
Alexander-Arnold has had a spectacular 2019/20 campaign during which he has scored 2 goals and set up 12 more in 29 Premier League matches.
The England international is second on the chart for most assists in the English top-flight this season and is also the player to create the second-highest number of chances (75), indicating the kind of impact he has going forward.
And it is this quality of his that has been hailed by Viv Anderson. The former Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Manchester United defender told Daily Star:
“Alexander-Arnold’s attacking talent is incredible. In terms of assists, he’s up there with everybody. That tells you he’s playing in the opposition’s half most of the time – against teams with 11 men behind the ball. He’s able to dominate the game from there. He’s a modern-day superstar – and rightly so.’’
Anderson further added that Alexander-Arnold, along with his teammate Andrew Robertson, had ‘glamourized’ the full-back role, which would inspire kids to take up that position (h/t Daily Star).
