Charlie Nicholas backs Timo Werner to replace Mohamed Salah

According to former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas, signing Timo Werner should mean the end of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool. He has backed Liverpool to sell the Egyptian superstar once the German ace is signed (h/t Express).

Nicholas believes that the Reds must prioritize Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane over the Egyptian ace. The comments are surprising considering no other player has scored more goals in the Premier League than Salah since he returned to British shores in 2017.

He has won the Golden Boot in both of his full seasons at Anfield. Salah is again the Liverpool top scorer this season with 20 goals.

Nicholas clearly does not seem to rate the Egyptian as he left him out of his team of the season while Firmino and Mane made the cut. Although Mane’s inclusion is understandable, that of Firmino stinks of bias given the Brazilian’s struggles this season.

“Salah has been great and Liverpool fans love him, but the two they may want to keep are Mane and Firmino.”

According to the ex-Gunners star, the duo offers Liverpool more options compared to Salah. He has hinted at the Egyptian’s goalscoring exploits cloud his teammates’ contributions.

An impressive addition!

Werner has enjoyed a prolific season in Germany. He has scored an impressive 27 goals and 12 assists in 36 games. His addition will add a further boost to the Liverpool front three that has failed to perform to their previous levels on more than one occasion.

His addition will be a welcome move, but it does not necessarily have to be at the cost of our Egyptian ace. Liverpool’s frontline is structured to get the best of our attacking trio’s strengths. By comparing them you take away from the aspect that they add considerably to each other’s performances.
Stranger things have happened in football but then Liverpool is a team on the rise, with the potential to get much better. Joining another club at this time will only be a step-down.

Salah has scored 70 goals in his first 100 Premier League appearances, a tally bettered only by the legendary Alan Shearer. His tally this season also makes him the first player since Michael Own in 2003-03 to hit 20 goals for Liverpool for three consecutive seasons. (h/t BBC)
