Oliver Mintzlaff ‘relaxed’ over Timo Werner situation amid Liverpool interest

RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff has claimed that he is ‘relaxed’ over the situation surrounding Timo Werner amidst Liverpool interest (h/t Mirror).

The 24-year-old Werner has been heavily linked with an exit from the Bundesliga heading into the summer, with Liverpool one of the teams emerging as the German international’s next destination (h/t Mirror).

The speculations had only intensified after Werner made comments claiming that our team was the best club in the world.

However, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has insisted that he is “deeply relaxed” about the situation surrounding the star marksman. Speaking to Sky Germany, Mintzlaff said (h/t Mirror):

“I’m deeply relaxed about Werner. He hasn’t signalled yet that he wants to leave at the end of the season and he doesn’t have to. He has a contract until 2023.”

Werner has been in fine form in the 2019/20 campaign. The German, who turned 24 last month, has plundered a whopping 27 goals and set up 12 more in just 36 matches across all competitions for Leipzig, helping their push for the Bundesliga title and progression in the Champions League.

The dearth of quality options behind our first-choice attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane is well-known. Divock Origi has scored some important goals but hasn’t impressed enough, while Xherdan Shaqiri could be axed this summer.

Werner has been a prolific goalscorer for Die Rotten Bullen for the past few seasons. The fact that he can play on the flanks as well would be a massive advantage for us, especially with the prospect of us losing Sadio Mane and Mo Salah during the AFCON 2021. It remains to be seen if the club are able to lure him from Leipzig in the summer.
