Liverpool make contact with Boubakary Soumare’s representatives
According to journalist Duncan Castles (h/t Daily Star), Liverpool have made contact with the representatives of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.
A rising star at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, the Frenchman has made 30 appearances so far this season. His performances have seen him capture the attention of several European heavyweights, with Manchester United and Newcastle United also in the mix.
Soumare has fallen out of favour at Lille with the French side open to selling him. With the coronavirus pandemic threatening to unsettle Lille’s finances, the club could accept a cut-price deal for the 21-year-old.
Castles went on to add that the Magpies were keen on signing the midfielder and had made an offer worth £35million in January. They are set to return with an offer in the summer, although the bid is expected to be of lower value. (h/t Daily Star)
He went on to add that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested and has been tracking the player for last two years. The Reds are keen to do their due diligence and have gotten in touch with the player’s representatives.
The report goes on to claim that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Soumare and held tentative talks over a move for the France under-21 international last summer. The player, however, wanted to see out the season in France. (h/t Daily Star)
Soumare is a powerhouse of a player who will add both power and dynamism to the Liverpool midfield. Standing at 6’2″, Soumare is also technically gifted and his ability to play as a box-tobox midfielder adds to the options he brings to the pitch.

The midfield is an area that could do with young blood. Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum will turn 30 this year. With James Milner not getting any younger, the Reds will need to blood in younger players sooner than later.
Soumare is young and could prove to be a mainstay in the Reds midfield for the next decade if he fulfils his potential. Beating the likes of Manchester United to his signature will make it much sweeter.
