Former Man Utd scout Jorge Alvial backs Liverpool to sign Jonathan David

According to MEN (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Manchester United scout Jorge Alvial expects Canadian striker Jonathan David to eventually make the move to the Premier League with Liverpool a possibility.

The 20-year-old striker has impressed in Belgium and has bagged 23 goals and 10 assists in 43 appearances for Gent this season.

Having joined the Belgians in 2018, David made an instant impact. He came off the bench to score a stoppage-time equalizer on his debut. A versatile player who can also play in attacking midfield, he has gone on to make 83 appearances

His performances have convinced Alvial that the player can make the cut at a top Premier League side – Liverpool included. Alvial believes a move this summer will come too soon for the player who he has tipped for a great future ahead.

“I believe Jonathan in the near future has the potential to play in the Premier League, and after a season or two can demonstrate if he is ready for the top teams like Manchester United, Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool.”

A prolific scorer, he has replicated his ability to find the back of the net even at the international level. Since making his debut in 2018, he has gone on to score 11 goals in 12 matches for the Canadian national team.

His performances have seen him win the Canadian Player of the Year award in 2019. He also won the Golden Boot at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2019. Buoyed by David’s goals, Canada made it all the way to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by Haiti.

David has shown that he has the ability to play alongside the best. He has made waves at a young age and can only improve with the right guidance.

Alvial is right in the sense that a step up to the Premier League would be asking for too much. If he keeps up his form, there is no reason why David cannot succeed in England.

He fits the profile of the players Liverpool are keen on – young and with the potential to grow. He is certainly someone to keep an eye out for.
