According to German publication Bild (h/t Mirror), German ace Timo Werner has made his mind up to make a move to Liverpool to play under Jurgen Klopp.
The 24-year-old’s decision will put an end to speculation linking him to Bayern Munich. Werner has categorically rejected the chance to move to the Allianz Arena in favour of Anfield.
One of the biggest names on the market this summer, Werner is not short of suitors. Manchester United and Chelsea were also keen on the player.
Werner has made quite the impact this season as his goals have kept Leipzig within touching distance of Bayern Munich in the title race. The prolific forward has lit up the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists in 36 appearances this season.
The German ace is contracted at the Red Bull Arena until 2023 and has a £52million release clause. He has been openly vocal about his admiration for Jurgen Klopp and the Reds.
The addition of Werner will give Klopp a number of options. We have been over-reliant on our front three for goals, with the backup options too inconsistent to be trusted.
Werner is miles ahead of the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi. Both of them have failed to hit last season’s highs.
The player believes his style is suited to Liverpool’s system. He recently showcased he can play against the top sides in England with a match-winning performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The coronavirus pandemic is set to affect the way clubs approach the transfer market. Liverpool are fortunate to not need to make wholesale changes to a relatively young squad. Adding Werner to the mix will boost our attacking prowess. It is imperative that we add another dimension to our attack that has at times been far too predictable.
