Liverpool plotting raid on Arsenal for Bukayo Saka

According to a report from Football Insider (h/t Express), Liverpool are planning a summer raid on Premier League rivals Arsenal for the signing of teenage star Bukayo Saka.

Saka is a product of the Arsenal academy. The 18-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough campaign in 2019/20, having scored three goals and created nine in 29 first-team appearances.

Primarily a winger, Saka has been used as a left-back this season due to injury problems at Arsenal. And the youngster has performed exceptionally in the makeshift position.

Saka’s future at Arsenal has been cast in doubt as his contract is set to expire in a year. This has left the Gunners sweating over the prospect of losing the teenager on a free transfer in 2021. (h/t Express)

And, Liverpool have been put on high alert by the youngster’s situation. The club’s recruitment department is heavily impressed with Saka’s performances, according to the report. His age and versatility fit in well with the club’s recruitment policy. (h/t Express)

The report further adds that Saka is being eyed as a backup for our first-choice left-back Andrew Robertson. And the club are keen on making a move for the youngster at the end of the season. (h/t Express)

Arsenal, though, are prepared to reject any offers for their prized asset. They are ready to offer him a new five-year deal to convince him to stay at the club. (h/t Express)

The club needs a new left-back to provide cover for Robertson at left-back. Saka, given his age and ability to play anywhere along the left flank, would be a fine addition to the squad. Given the spade of young talent coming through the ranks of our own academy, the 18-year-old would fit in nicely with the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott among others.
