Jurgen Klopp wants Raul Jimenez at Liverpool
According to Spanish publication Don Balon (h/t Birmingham Mail), Jurgen Klopp is keen to add Wolverhampton Wanderers ace, Raul Jimenez, to his Liverpool squad.
The 29-year-old Mexican striker has built up a solid reputation for himself since moving to the Molineux in 2018. This has seen him garner interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, whose manager Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer.
Jimenez has enjoyed a stellar season, contributing with 22 goals and 10 assists in 44 games. He has played against us a number of times, with a return of two goals in five matches. Liverpool fans will remember him as the only player to have scored against us last January, with the club conceding just once over a period of 11 weeks from December 2019 to February 2020.
Although Liverpool have a front three comparable to any attack in world football, they are found wanting when it comes to backup.
Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi through a combination of injuries and bad form have failed to impress, unlike last season. With us dependent on our strikers for goals, it is imperative that we have options to bring off the pitch when required.
A player who plays a key role in connecting the Wolves attack, Jimenez’s style is at times reminiscent of Roberto Firmino. The Mexican’s ability on the ball and his ability to bring the best out of his teammates will appeal to Klopp.
He is not just an excellent team player. Jimenez is a player for the big games and has en excellent record against the top teams in the league.
Strengthening the strong
Although he will not displace any of our attacking trio, he will be an excellent player to bring on or rotate. A player with a proven pedigree, Jimenez will be a quality addition to an already excellent squad.
According to the report, it is unlikely that he will come cheap. Wolves will be keen to make a profit on a player they paid a club-record £32.6million for just a year ago.
