Liverpool star Marko Grujic will return to the club at the end of this month. The Serbian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Hertha Berlin.
Jurgen Klopp’s first signing at the club, the Serbian has built up a reputation for himself in the Bundesliga.
The 24-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances at the Olympiastadion Berlin. He has made 50 appearances while scoring nine goals and assisting three more. (h/t Transfermarkt
)Speaking to Goal (h/t Liverpool Echo), Hertha sporting director Michael Preetz has confirmed that the player will indeed be returning to Merseyside this month.
He also went on to add that the Reds will receive a much better player than the one they loaned out two years ago. The regular game time he received in Germany will only have added to his experience.
“Liverpool will get back a player who is definitely more experienced than he has been before, because he earned very important game practice.”
The Serbian made just 14 appearances in his first two seasons at Anfield. Letting him leave has been the right decision as he has made the best of his time at Hertha.
“Just in his first year he played extraordinary. Now after the restart he is getting back into his good shape.”
The Germans too feel they benefitted from the decision. He has earned rave reviews, with former manager Pal Dardai even calling Grujic the best midfielder at the club in two decades.
The Liverpool midfield has struggled with injuries and a loss of form this season. Fabinho and Naby Keita have oscillated between the sublime and the ridiculous this season. Jordan Henderson and Gini Winaldum are key players but will turn 30 this year.
Adding young blood is necessary and Grujic could fill that hole in the middle of the park.
Whether Grujic’s future remains at Liverpool has to be seen. Given his performances in Germany, he has certainly done his chances no harm.
