Liverpool face Man City competition for Thiago Alcantara

According to a report from German publication Bild (h/t Daily Star), Premier League champions Liverpool will have to battle with rivals Manchester City for the signing of Bayern Munich superstar Thiago Alcantara.

The 29-year-old Spanish international is in the final year of his contract with the German champions. With him not interested in signing a new deal, an exit in the ongoing transfer window beckons. And, Liverpool have been credited with serious interest in the services of the former Barcelona man. (h/t Daily Star)

The report claims that the Reds are willing to offer €30m to Bayern for Thiago. However, rivals Manchester City have now entered the race to sign the Spaniard and are willing to offer a bigger sum than us. (h/t Daily Star)

Manchester City Pep Guardiola worked with Thiago at Barcelona, before signing him at Bayern in 2013. And now, the Catalan boss is keen on bringing him to the Etihad as a replacement for the exit-bound David Silva. (h/t Daily Star)

The familiarity of having worked with Guardiola is something that will attract Thiago. However, it has also been claimed that the La Masia graduate is intent on playing under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has a complete midfield unit currently at his disposal led by captain Jordan Henderson. And while Thiago is a world class player without a doubt and would add a more creative presence to the side, there are questions as to how he will fit into Klopp’s ethos and style of play.

In addition, the club seems to be wary of spending heavily in the market. So, with Manchester City ready to offer more than what Liverpool are willing to shell out, the hierarchy may well decide to pull out of the transfer.
