Andy Robertson unfazed by the quality of Kostas Tsimikas

Speaking to the club’s official website, Andy Robertson has heaped praise on Liverpool new signing Kostas Tsimikas, by saying that the former Olympiacos man immediately improves Jurgen Klopp’s current squad.

The speedster though, clarified that the signing doesn’t effect his own ambitions as a player, and that he’d do everything in his power to nail down the starting role in the team. (h/t Liverpoolfc.com)

The Reds completed the signing of the Greek full-back on the 10th of August, as was confirmed on the official website. Tsimikas was signed from renowned European club Olympiacos on the back of a quite memorable season with the club.

The 24-year-old arrived on a long-term contract as well, which means that he’s going to provide Robertson with direct competition for the role. (h/t Liverpoolfc.com)

“I’ve seen him in training and he looks a really good player. I can’t say I saw much of him playing for Olympiacos and things like that. But it’s up to the club and they’ve obviously seen something there”

Robertson was initially brought in by Liverpool as a back-up left-back option for Alberto Moreno. But his rate of development since making the switch to Anfield has been commendable, to say the least.

To think about a Liverpool team without Robertson bombarding down the flanks would seem alien. And it will surely take a gargantuan effort from Tsimikas to displace the Scot in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team picture.

“For me personally, he’s obviously in my position and I want to stay the number one left-back. I want to play as many games as I can, to stay fit, to keep my levels high and I want to be playing every game.”

Despite the lack of hype that was given to the move, the sheer impact that he’s had on the squad simply cannot be underplayed. With four major trophies now under his belt within two seasons of joining us, he’s already got all the right tools required to keep Tsimikas out of the side for as long as it might take.
