Liverpool sources dismiss reports of Barcelona transfer agreement for midfield star

Neil Jones says there is ‘no contact at all’ between Barcelona and Georginio Wijnaldum

Renowned journalist Neil Jones has clarified that the reports of an agreement between Georginio Wijnaldum and Barcelona are false. Jones claimed that his Liverpool sources assured that no contact had been made between the Catalan side and the player, despite talk of a €15m agreement being achieved.

Catalan source SPORT claimed that an agreement had been reached between the two parties. And the news of a supposed agreement spread like wildfire. Neil Jones is a reliable journalist for the most part. So, it would probably make more sense for fans to be patient before jumping to conclusions.

Barcelona have been in the midst of an unprecedented internal calamity involving Lionel Messi over recent weeks. And to think that they’ve actually backed Ronald Koeman in the market during this is a bit far-fetched.

The situation at the La Liga club is far from comfortable at the moment. And their first order of business at this time will surely be keeping hold of their Argentine superstar.

Wijnaldum has been a Liverpool player for four full seasons now, having joined from Newcastle United back in the summer of 2016. Not only has the 29-year-old made over 180 appearances for Liverpool, but he has also developed into one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted commanders in the midfield area.

Capable of ghosting past challenges in midfield and picking up dangerous positions in the final third as well, selling Wijnaldum is sure to leave a hole is the squad. Wijnaldum has scored multiple important goals for us during his time at Anfield as well.

Leaving the PL champions to join a team that’s going to be in transition next season isn’t the greatest idea. And if Neil Jones is to be believed, then Wijnaldum is well aware of that as well.
