Liverpool still interested in Brighton centre-back Ben White
Premier League champions Liverpool are still interested in Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White, according to Football Insider (h/t Mirror).
The 23-year-old was a part of the Leeds United team that achieved promotion from the Championship last season and has slotted into the Brighton defence without much fuss.
White was on loan at Leeds United last season and has featured in five Premier League games for Brighton this season.
The report claims that the Reds scouted White extensively throughout the summer. However, we didn’t submit a bid for the Englishman, even though he scored well in our data metrics. There was one concern though from the Reds as the report adds that White’s aerial stats were not the greatest.
White has looked decent in the back-three of Brighton. However, the Reds have their own concerns at the back after the Merseyside derby.
VVD to miss a large chunk of the season
The big talking point after another feisty derby revolved around Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch centre-back injured his ACL after a horrible challenge from Jordan Pickford.
The Everton keeper wasn’t punished for his actions and the Reds confirmed that Van Dijk will have to undergo surgery to fix his knee.
There is no time frame for the Dutchman to return and there is a major hole in our backline. Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are the only recognised senior centre-backs in the first XI now.

However, the pair have had their injury issues in the past. Fabinho would have to slot into the centre-back role if either got injured or Jurgen Klopp would have to use one of the youth team players.
It is to be seen if Liverpool make a move in the January window. However, we could do with a quality new centre-back in the winter window.
