Jurgen Klopp speaks out about injuries to Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri
According to Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp has given an update on the injuries to Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri in an interview after Liverpool smashed Leicester 3-0 at home on Sunday.
With a handful of big names missing, Liverpool were dominant throughout the 90 minutes and taught Leicester City a footballing lesson in their 3-0 victory. The match was panning out perfectly for the Reds until Naby Keita went down in the second half due to an injury.
Speaking in the interview, Klopp lamented the fresh injury issue to Keita after he was subbed off in the 54th minute against Leicester due to a hamstring problem.
“It was the perfect night until Naby left the pitch. He felt his hamstring and was not able to play on otherwise he would have stayed on the pitch.”
Naby Keita had played twice in the international break and was bright for us in the first half against the Foxes after only recently returning from an injury. The severity of the injury is yet to be revealed, but it is almost certain that Keita will miss the fixture against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League this week.
Klopp went on to explain another absence of Xherdan Shaqiri from the Reds squad as he revealed the Swiss picked up an injury while on national duty.
“How I know it, Shaq had a little muscle injury with the national team which he didn’t really realise and then he trained with us. We gave him a day off then he came back and was involved in a session, but it was not fully involved, he just did a little bit.”
The injuries to Shaqiri and Keita turned our impressive 3-0 win against Brendan Rodgers’ men somewhat bittersweet.
The club is already undergoing an anomalous injury crisis and with Shaqiri and Keita indefinitely sidelined, Klopp’s headaches are sure to increase despite his team being 2nd in the Premier League table.
