Veteran midfield star the latest player to be sidelined with injury for Liverpool ahead of Ajax clash

James Milner to be sidelined after Jurgen Klopp confirms hamstring injury

Speaking to BT Sport (h/t Metro) after the controversial 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that James Milner had suffered a hamstring injury.

Liverpool played out a 1-1 draw against Brighton on Saturday which saw a late Pascal Gross penalty cancel out Diogo Jota’s 9th Liverpool goal of the season.

To make matters worse, Milner

went down in the 73rd minute of the match and was replaced by Curtis Jones.

Speaking

after the match, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that James Milner had suffered a hamstring injury as he mentioned the busy fixture list having an effect on both teams.

“Yeah. Hamstring, surprise. And they [Brighton] had injuries as well because it’s a tough time.”

James Milner now joins several other midfielders and defenders on the treatment table as Klopp continues to be infuriated by the Premier League’s decision to not introduce the 5-substitutes rule. (h/t Metro)

The Reds are already without Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, both of whom suffered serious injuries earlier this season. Trent-Alexander Arnold has also been sidelined due to a calf problem he picked up in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City before the international break.

James Milner, the man expected to deputize in his position, has now also been sidelined. The club may have to afford more time to inexperienced full-back Neco Williams, who was brought off against Brighton at half-time after he conceded a first-half penalty that Neal Maupay put wide.

The result put us at the top of the Premier League table until Tottenham Hotspur secured a 0-0 draw against third-placed Chelsea on Sunday to reclaim their spot at the summit.

Liverpool welcome Ajax Amsterdam in the UEFA Champions League this week as they aim to secure qualification to the knockout stages with a game to spare.
