Liverpool after Brighton & Hove Albion ace Yves Bissouma as Georginio Wijnaldum replacement
According to the ECHO (h/t Daily Mail), Liverpool are interested in signing Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma as a contingency plan in case Georginio Wijnaldum does not renew his current Liverpool deal.
Yves Bissouma joined Brighton from Lille in 2018 and has since impressed with his combative displays in the heart of Brighton’s midfield.
The 24-year-old Mali midfielder also has 16 caps for his national team and has scored 3 goals for them. (h/t Daily Mail)
Bissouma is being sought as a replacement in Liverpool’s midfield for Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum, who has been tipped to leave in the summer as a free agent. (h/t Daily Mail)
Wijnaldum is in the final few months of his contract and would be open to discussing terms with foreign clubs in January for a move in the summer as a free agent. (h/t Daily Mail)
It is reported that Wijnaldum will not agree to a new contract at the club and the 30-year-old midfielder may be on his way out.
In that instance, a tough and sturdy midfielder like Bissouma could replace Wijnaldum’s role in the team and handle the defensive aspects of the game to allow the creative players more space and freedom.
One of Wijnaldum’s biggest strengths is his fitness and availability, especially when Jurgen Klopp’s team has been going through an injury crisis. The Dutchman has played 90 minutes in all but one Premier League fixtures this season.
Similarly, Bissouma has played in all Premier League games for Brighton this season apart from the tie against Manchester United for which he was suspended, and has never had a notable injury in his career. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, the Reds may not find it easy to sign Bissouma as Arsenal are also reportedly interested in signing the Mali international.
