Liverpool are targeting Sebastian Walukiewicz but face competition from other clubs

A report by Sport Witness citing Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Liverpool ECHO) states that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Polish centre-back Sebastian Walukiewicz from the Serie A.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated at his club Cagliari and has featured in 10 Serie A matches already this season.

The fact that he has not been subbed-off even once in all his appearances tells a lot about his fitness as well the trust placed in him by Eusebio Di Francesco, the manager of Cagliari.

Liverpool, however, are not the only English club interested in signing the Polish youngster as both Chelsea and Manchester United are also reportedly targeting Walukiewicz. (h/t Liverpool ECHO)

Liverpool have been woefully unlucky with injuries this season, especially in defence. Superstar Virgil van Dijk has been sidelined for a lengthy period with an ACL injury while Joe Gomez also suffered a serious injury which ruled him out until at least the new year.

Rhys Williams, Fabinho, Joel Matip, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Andy Robertson have also had bouts with injuries this season.

Keeping this in mind, a youngster like Walukiewicz would seriously boost the depth in our backline and could be a good long-term decision considering Liverpool are yet to replace Dejan Lovren whom they sold to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer.

Signing the Polish youngster, though, is not going to be an easy task as he recently renewed his contract at Cagliari which ties him at the club until the summer of 2024.

There is also interest in the youngster from an Italian team, with Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan also rumoured to be after his signature. (h/t Liverpool ECHO)
