Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente linked with a move to Liverpool

According to a report by ESPN (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are interested in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente.

The Spanish midfielder broke Anfield hearts in March 2020. He scored twice in the round of 16 second-leg against Liverpool to send them packing in heartbreaking fashion.

Since then, the 25-year-old versatile midfielder has received multiple offers from a number of clubs. At least that is what his agent claimed when talking to Cadena Ser (h/t Mirror).

“I have received many calls since Anfield for Marcos Llorente.”

His agent also mentioned that the last call that he had for Llorente was from a non-Spanish club. However, he diplomatically said that the Spanish sensation did not want to leave Wanda Metropolitano.

“…he wants to stay, so there is not much else to do. The last call I received was in May, and it was not from Spain.”

Be it the truncated Premier League season or just bad luck, Liverpool have had a wretched run with injuries in recent times.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, and Thiago Alcantara have all missed games due to being injured at different points of the season.

Not just that, the midfielder has also played in an array of positions on the field, including wide midfield, central midfield, and even as an auxiliary striker.

With a congested fixture list awaiting the defending Premier League champions, a midfielder like Llorente would surely add depth and quality to our midfield.

It would hence be great decision-making if Jurgen Klopp was to make a move for the Spanish midfielder in the future. However, the Reds will face competition from other teams if they are to sign Llorente. (h/t Mirror)
