A report from Mirror mentions that Liverpool have completed the transfer of highly-rated youngster Kaide Gordon from Derby County. The club beat Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to the 16-year-old’s signature.
The initial fee for the transfer is £1million but it could rise to £3million with add-ons. Gordon has made a name for himself at Derby and even got praise from newly-appointed manager Wayne Rooney.
He joined Derby at U-9 level and made his senior debut for the Rams in December last year. He came on in the final few minutes of their 4-0 win against Birmingham City.
Speaking to Liverpool Echo (h/t Mirror), Derby academy expert Jack Hasler highlighted the youngster’s strengths and indicated that the Reds have a real gem on their hands.
“His [biggest strength] is his dribbling skills – he is a very agile player and he has a bit of pace about him as well. He is a top-quality player. He has a good eye for goal and he creates goals for his teammates.”
Hasler also highlighted that if Gordon could add to his weight, he could be similar to Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.
“If he was to bulk up a bit, he could… be similar to Mohamed Salah in that he has that left foot that is really special.”
He also added that Gordon would be looking to base his playing style in the coming years around someone like Greenwood at Manchester United. The comparisons are certainly flattering. And if he could be even half the player that the Egyptian is at Liverpool, then the club have a real gem on their hands.
At an initial fee of just £1million, it also seems like a low-risk, high-reward signing.
