Jurgen Klopp in two minds over handing debut to Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies against Manchester City

Speaking in a press conference before the game against Manchester City on Sunday (h/t Liverpool website), manager Jurgen Klopp said that he is not sure if either one of Ben Davies or Ozan Kabak would be making their debut this weekend.

Liverpool signed Ben Davies from Preston North End in the closing stages of the January transfer window. He was also present in the matchday squad that lost 1-0 to Brighton & Hove Albion this week.

The Reds completed a loan deal for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak on deadline day. And he is now available for selection after being given international clearance.

However, the German thinks that the game against Manchester City might be too soon for them to make their debuts.

“I don’t know. With our situation, we will see who can play again, who cannot and who should not or who should play again.”

No definite answer

He confirmed that the two are training with the team and that he could give a better answer about their appearance against City in a day’s time.

“Today, proper session. Tomorrow, proper session and we will see. I don’t know yet.”

The Reds have had one of the most ridiculous defensive injury crises possible in the past few months. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been out for the majority of the season, while Joel Matip’s fitness continues to be shaky.

In their absence, Liverpool have had to lose the midfield presence of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, as the two have deputized in defence.
