Liverpool tracking Raphinha as potential Mohamed Salah replacement

According to Football Insider (h/t Express), Liverpool are closely monitoring Leeds United winger Raphinha as a potential replacement for star attacker Mohamed Salah.

The 28-year-old Salah has grown into one of the best forwards in England and Europe since making the switch to Merseyside in 2017. However, of late, reports have been circulating that the Egyptian might be headed to Spain in the near future, with Barcelona and Real Madrid touted as possible destinations. (h/t Express)

“I think Madrid and Barcelona are two top clubs,” Salah told AS. “Who knows what is going to happen in the future? But right now I am focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool again.”

While any such move is extremely unlikely given both the La Liga giants’ dire financial situations, Liverpool still seem to be preparing to bolster the attacking unit in the summer, with Raphinha on the radars.

The Brazilian joined Leeds United last summer from French club Rennes and has impressed heavily in his debut season in the Premier League. So much so that, Liverpool scouts are said to have been ‘blown away’ by his abilities. (h/t Express)

In 24 appearances across all competitions, the 24-year-old has scored and assisted six goals apiece so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Manager Jurgen Klopp was quick to play down Salah’s comments. And as mentioned previously, both Real Madrid and Barcelona are in difficult financial situations and would struggle to fund a move for the Reds’ star.

Even if he stays, bringing in Raphinha might prove to be a good move. Able to play on either flank, the Brazilian would provide more ammunition to our attacking arsenal if signed.
