Liverpool still tracking 23-year-old PL rising star but face competition from London duo

Tottenham and Chelsea interested in signing Liverpool transfer target Ben White

A report by Brighton & Hove Independent mentions that Ben White is on the transfer radar of Tottenham, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

The centre-back has been a long-term target for Jurgen Klopp and the club were even linked with a move for him in January. But the Reds signed Preston North End defender Ben Davies instead and Ozan Kabak from Schalke. Davies is yet to play for the Reds.

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old White is still on Liverpool’s radar. Klopp was said to be impressed by the Englishman’s performance when the Seagulls trumped Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield earlier in the season. (h/t Brighton & Hove Independent)

Transfer race for White

Liverpool’s injury crisis has only worsened as Jordan Henderson sustained an injury against Everton. The club captain had been filling in at centre-back given the club’s defensive crisis.

White has had an impressive season for Brighton and has looked comfortable in making the step up to the Premier League. He was at Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United last season, where he helped the club win promotion.

The Seagulls are just 4 points clear from the relegation zone but have conceded the least goals in the bottom 10 so far, alongside Burnley. White has played in 23 of those 24 Premier League games for Brighton so far.

If the Reds do want to sign him, then they will have to fend off some serious competition. The report adds that London clubs Chelsea and Spurs are both interested in him.

Liverpool’s defenders would most likely return to action before the start of the new season. However, the injury crisis this season could leave the club anxious and in search of more defensive cover in the future.
