Liverpool face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan in transfer pursuit of Sven Botman
A report by France Football (h/t Daily Mail) mentions that Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Liverpool transfer target Sven Botman.
Spurs are hoping to convince the £40million-rated Lille centre-back to make his way to North London. Earlier reports mentioned that Spurs had already convinced him to join, but that is not true.
Instead, Jose Mourinho knows that signing the 21-year-old defender would not be easy. Liverpool and Serie A leaders Inter Milan are both in hot pursuit of the Dutchman.
Botman joined Lille in the summer of 2020 for a £7.8million fee from Ajax Amsterdam, where he spent 11 years. Botman was also on the Reds’ radar in January. Jurgen Klopp instead went with the double swoop of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on deadline day.
A good long-term signing
Botman is on the radar of some top clubs and it is not surprising. The 6’4″ centre-back is strong in the air, a good tackler, and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. (h/t Daily Mail)
He is one of the main reasons behind his team’s great start to the Ligue 1 campaign. Lille are currently on top of their league table, conceding just 16 goals in 26 league games and keeping 13 clean sheets.
Liverpool’s injury problems in defence are not alien to anyone. The club has seen all of their senior centre-backs injured at one point of the season or another.
Even Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, both of whom are midfielders having to deputize in defence, have been sidelined through injuries over the course of the campaign.

While the majority of the defenders should be back from their current injuries by the time the summer window opens, Klopp would be conscious about a repeat of such an issue.
