A report on the front page of German outlet BILD (h/t Daily Mail) claims that Jurgen Klopp can quit Liverpool as early as 2022 in order to take over as the manager of Germany.
The German national team is currently managed by Joachin Low. And Klopp could potentially take over the helm once the 2022 FIFA World Cup concludes in Qatar.
The outlet has given a 68% probability for the event, as compared to the 30% probability given to him for staying at Liverpool until the end of his current contract.
The German gaffer is tied to Liverpool until the summer of 2024. If he does leave at the end of the 2021/22 season, it would be consistent with his previous managerial spells.
He spent 7 years each at Borussia Dortmund and Mainz. Klopp joined Liverpool in 2015 when he took over the helm from outgoing manager Brendan Rodgers.
Due to his popularity amongst the fans and the backing from Liverpool owners, the probability of him being sacked or quitting the club are given a 2% probability.
The start of the 2024 UEFA European Championship, which would be held in Germany, could also be an incentive for him to join the German national team before his Liverpool contract expires.
In addition to this, the report also mentions that the situation of Klopp leaving the Reds in 2022 would allow him to take 6 months off and join up with Die Mannschaft in early 2023.
Despite the team’s poor run of 4 straight losses at Anfield, this news would come as a dagger to the heart of the fans. Klopp has led us to our first Premier League title in 30 years and their 7th UEFA Champions League trophy.
More than that, he has given the Reds an identity and made us top dogs again. Replacing such a manager would not be the easiest task in the world.
